Yes we occasionaly get dog, human, deer, rabbit, raccoon, coyote, turtle, and bird shit, along with whatever gruesome thing it is that hawks cough up - hawk pellets? My current favorite is coyote urine pellets which are, well, pellets soaked in coyote urine. Makes the cats/rabbits/etc. think you have a coyote living in the garden and the tend to go elsewhere. Does not work on turtles. Does not work on dogs or on human garden raiders. When you’re growing a garden not as a hobby but as part of your annual food supply the temptation isn’t to merely hurt a cat, it is to kill a cat because the animal is destroying part of your food supply. I’m all for trying to find non-violent means to solve the problem, but given a choice between eating and feral cat my dinner wins. ---

Woo, my old thread resurrected. Zombie cat shit! They were cats, all right. There’s a big fence around the garden that keeps out dogs and coyotes. And they’re still around. One of my raised beds is unused at this point, and its soil has become dried out and loose. The same cats or their feral offspring are still shitting in it. However, they seem to stay out of the other bed which still has plants and is regularly watered. So here’s a new solution: maintain a place with dry loose soil or sand, and keep your other, actual planted beds damp at all times. They’ll poop in the dry place and leave your seedlings alone. ---
