Heee Funnily enough, they were called amytriptalene. Don’t try it at home kids.
And I am feeling much better today thanks.

Fran,
I was on that stuff! Whew. Makes you think you’re Superman! Dangerous thing for a nut case to be thinking, as I see it now. At the time it seemed like a good thing, what with being semi-comatose from depression.
For those thinking of abusing the stuff, it is not a “high” drug. It takes weeks to begin working, and stays in your system for weeks as well. The affects are subtle at first, and then just overwhelm your moods. ** YOU WILL FEEL GOOD AND FILLED WITH CONFIDENCE AND ENERGY!** You will also feel thirsty, and somewhat nauseated. You will be quite sure that you are just doing fine. That feeling will have no relation to reality. Nothing will be signifigant if it doesn’t fit into your new world view.
The stuff is just horrifying. It was quite popular, in the late seventies, among hospital psychiatrists.
On feeling better today:
Remember today. Hold it in your memory. Knowing that the panic ends is a great thing to keep in mind while it is happening. I know that during episodes the moment overwhelms you, but you can build some mnemonic cues now to remind yourself then that it will pass, on it’s own.
It is a small thing, but it is a thing that comes from within you, and lets you control your own mind. Much better than drugs.

Amytryptelene was the first medication I was on for my sleep disorder. I didn’t have hallucinations, but it did cause a lot of other problems, including a one-time overdose when my pharmacist switched brands and accidentally gave me the wrong dosage. That caused mood swings, muscle tremors, all kinds of nasty things, and could have very easily killed me.
I never experienced the feeling of power that Triskadecamus describes. In fact, the one time I actually had a serious depression was when I was taking it. It also caused severe dry mouth, nausea, wooziness, constipation, and masturbation took absolutely forever to finish (sorry, TMI). Just in case anyone is interested, I’ll also mention that amitryptelene isn’t avaliable over the counter here in Korea.
Francesca- I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling better today.
Sure they do, do do do do do do HAAAGGGGGGAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
OK, so maybe I need a new approach
