It’s a security risk when used in a debit or credit card. The identifying information on the card can be read discretely from a distance.

It’s my job as teller to make sure all checks are endorsed properly. Especially for night drop…there’s a higher risk and incidence of fraud in mail-in and night deposits, so we are extra careful with those. I have a stamp with specific language used for deposits, and I consider it good client service to take care of the little things they forget.
If some slip through, proof is supposed to catch it.
If they’re feeling bureaucratic on that day, they will send it back…but most times they’ll stamp it and send through. It’s just too much work to single out the few that aren’t stamped and mail back…sounds like you were an example.
