Treat, First, thanks for your service to atheism. Second, do I get this right? Treat: John gives a bulletproof numerical analysis that proves Jesus. Everyone else: Only if the year is 360 days. Treat: Who you gonna believe, John or your calendar? Third: It’s been shown several times that you can get numbers to prove anything you want, if you are selective enough and choose the calculations carefully. But you clearly don’t get the message. Fourth: If God wanted to send a message, why didn’t he just say it? The rules in the Torah, for instance, are down there in black and white, not encoded in some weird code. Fifth: What did you get on your math SATs? ---

Actually, it occurs to me that from a bronze age perspective, the tribulations of being sterilized with fire and whatnot might have seemed harsh but probably just a ramped-up version of the war and pestilence and plagues they were used to, and survival was possible. Nowadays, since we know what nuclear weapons are, to us “sterilize with fire” means widespread (if not global) extinction. Similarly, I guess if you traveled back in time to 450 BCE and told a Greek sheep-herder about travelling from Athens to Sparta in less than an hour, he’d think you were talking about something only the gods could do. Can Hermes be outpaced by a helicopter? ---

However there are things that God hates, like little boys being raped in their butt. He will destroy those evil doers unless they repent. So if God hates little boys being raped in their butt, why does He allow it to continue? If he’s omnipotent, then he has the power to stop that which he hates. If He doesn’t stop it, then either He is okay with it happening, or He doesn’t care about little boys. ---
