The reason the comparison is wildly wrong is because Rand hated Hitler just as much as she hated Stalin, and for the same reason - both of them put the primacy of the state ahead of the primacy of the individual. She may have hated Hitler even more because of his messianic/religious convictions.
Ayn Rand was a champion of the individual, and an enemy of state power. Comparing her to Hitler is not just offensive, but it show a major amount of ignorance about who she was and what she stood for.

A more apt comparison (yes, I’m gonna go there) is Churchill and Hitler. Churchill reported on concentration camps (not death camps) in the Boer war, Hitler adopted the British tactic. Both Hitler and Churchill were tremendous orators, both were fine art painters and authors, both served on the Western Front in WWI. Hitler was a wall paper hanger, Churchill liked to lay bricks to relax. One was evil, the other hated Ghandi.
