Conversation with some guys Monday. Me: Who’s left in the final four? Friend: Georgia Tech, OSU, Duke, and… Me: Duke sucks! Friend: UConn Me: Hmmm. Who’s the star player this year? Friend: Oh, um Emeka Okafor; he plays for UConn Me: Anywhere as good as Carmello? Friend: No way. Me: Matchup? Friend: GT-OSU; Duke-UConn Me: Duke sucks Friend: So what’s it going to be? Me: Well, as much as Duke sucks, I really hate OSU. UConn’s been there before Friend: Yeah, for women’s Me: And I like the team colors. Friend: ? Me: It’ll be UConn by a bunch. And so it was. Hey, don’t knock my method; it’s tried and true. Since I started paying attention to March Madness three years ago I haven’t been wrong yet. 🆒 Oddly enough, in the beginning I still root for Gonzaga every year for no apparent reason… ---

Wow … what kind of ass-kickers would Stanford have been this year if Okafor had gone there as he had originally wanted? I’m a little disappointed. I thought it would be nice to see Georgia Tech win its first title. On the other hand, if this means that UConn pulls off the first men’s title/women’s title double play in NCAA history, that’s cool, because then Duke will be denied the chance to be first. And I’m in favor of practically anything that hurts Duke. ---

UConn won? Damn. Sorry but I was pulling for the southern boys … But … AT LEAST DUKE DIDN’T WIN!!! And for that we should all make merry! ---

They made a good run near the end. If they would have done that at the 10 minute mark, they might have won. Looks like they got out-coached. ---

Last night I sat in the Alexander Memorial Coliseum with 5000 other students and held my breath as we sunk 3 pointer after 3 pointer in those last 60 seconds. I held my head high even after the loss. We had made it farther than 320 other colleges had, and we had done so wading against the predictions and nay-sayers the entire way. We’ll be back next year.
