We are heading up the the great Northwest next month and need an house/dog sitter for a week. Any idea the going rate for this? Any professional house sitters on the Dope? ---

We were just on an 8 day vacation and hired a dog sitting service. They charged $50 per day that included 3 visits for 2 dogs. I thought that was extremely reasonable, especially when compared to boarding. The lady sent pictures by text every time she visited, so I knew that they were indeed being looked after and were happy. ---

I recently had a college student (currently living nearby with her parents) stay at my house to look after my 4 dogs, 2 horses, and chickens for a week. $200. ---

I watch my friends pets when she goes away but I get to use her washing machine, big tub, watch her netflix, use her pool, and raid her fridge. Works out I think. If it wasn’t a friend I’d charge maybe ten dollars per visit, plus gas if it wasn’t in the same town. ---

My son will be house/dog sitting for our neighbors 3 doors down this fall. They will be gone 10 days, I think he’s getting $40/day and he’ll be staying at their house. They are also leaving him food money. I said he’d probably just come eat here, but they will likely leave him another $100 for food they said. ---

About seven yrs ago, I house and dog sat for five days. I was given 300 dollars, plus some spending money for food, and a few gift certificates for a restaurant, movie theater. The house was an hour away so I just stayed there and my duties were mostly just to feed the dogs and walk one dog once a day.
