I’m sitting here, listening to my Once More With Feeling soundtrack and suddenly it hit me…No more Buffy. But I’ve grown so accustomed to having it in my life! What am I going to do?

I’ve laughed with it, cried with it, discussed it with my friends, discussed it on the internet, read articles and books about it.

It’s become such a fixture that whenever I’m depressed, I always think/thought: Well, there’s always another Buffy episode to look forward to! This makes me feel a bit stupid…after all, it’s just a TV show, isn’t it?

I’ll sure miss it a lot when it’s gone. And I don’t think I can replace it with _Angel_ or any spinoff that might come, even if it heavily involves Spike 🙂

Are any of you experiencing similar feelings? Make me feel less stupid…

Yes. And it’s amazing, because I only got into the show this past Christmas. But because I’m like a mental patient when I get into things, I got all three available seasons on DVD, and recorded the FX two-per-night broadcast, which caught me up to season six so far. In a sense, it’s been great… I hate having to wait a week to see what happens next, and I haven’t had to.

But there’s no doubt it will leave a hole in my entertainment life.

My response is the same as **Bricker** ’s word for word except that I started watching in October, not around Christmas, and I haven’t gotten the S3 DVD set yet as I have all those episodes recorded from FX. Although I will get it eventually.

Let’s just say, that seeing my own obsession, which started last May\*, I finally understand Trekkies.
\*Reading about Buffy on this very board, again and again, thinking, WTF… that’s just a stupid kiddie-show, isn’t it…? And season one was just $40. No biggie.

Now you see where I’m coming from. I’ve been watching it since it first aired. My obsession really had time to grow since 1997…

At least I live in Europe where you can purchase the first five seasons on DVD. And I did.

I had stopped watching TV entirely for a couple years until I picked up watching Buffy at the beginning of season 5. I had seen a few episodes of seasons, uh, one or two or three, don’t know, and then nothing for a long time.

Season 5 came along and I was addicted. Now I watch every night on FX.

Except for three other shows (one of which being Angel), Buffy is all I watch or look foreward to on TV, so there is going to be one big-ass gap when the series ends.

And since the OP mentions the soundtrack for “Once More, With Feeling,” it’s only appropriate to mention that I’m listening to it right now. And I am always finding little bits in the music or (watching it again) the staging that I appreciate. Last night I noticed that when Willow does her “I’ve Got a Theory,” bit about being trapped in some kid’s whacky Broadway nightmare, Tara obligingly illustrates the points with some hand flourishes.

It’s pure genius, this show.

Oh yes, I listened to the same soundtrack this weekend, and it made me sad when I thought about the show ending; I’ve been watching it since the first episode aired, so it’s been a part of my week for a long long time. It’s been a rough couple of seasons for drama and sci-fi, since _many_ of my favorite shows were canceled last season (X-files, Roswell, Felicity) or are being axed this season Buffy, Dawson’s Creek). However, on the bright side they’re all in syndication - or will be by the end of the month- and most are on DVD so I don’t really have to say goodbye to my favorite shows, at least not entirely. I do wish there were more episodes left, but… Nothing they’ve replaced my old shows with has been nearly as good! [sub]except Everwood[/sub]. Of the shows I’ve watched on a long-term basis, all I’ll have left after this season is **Charmed** and **e.r.** \<cries\>

I already went through my “Buffy” decompression phase some time around the Glory season. I still watch it every week, but I’ve been cooling to it for a while. It looks like “Angel” is becoming watchable, though, unless that gets ripped off the air…

The whole thing kind of reminds me of _The Orchid Thief_ and _Adaptation_, the bit about “serial obsession.” I related to that more than I care to admit, and could completely identify with that weird depression that comes when you’re between hobbies or fan fixations.

</div>

I’ll admit it: I’m looking forward to the end. Not because I really want to see it end, mind you. I just think a satisfying ending is necessary for any narrative art. Buffy’s been on for 7 seasons, which is about 80 in human years. I’m happy to see it go out with some dignity, even if I think that a truly great ending was reached 2 years ago. (Not that the last two seasons have been worthless, by any means.)

Yeah, I’ll have a hole in my weeknights and obsessions, but I have no doubt that they’ll be filled with something else in due course.

A life without Spike? Dear God…is it even worth living? _sigh_
I’m really hoping for that spin-off…
