Traveling with wife and MIL to charlotte for wedding. Service and reception are Friday evening and night. I have Thursday and Saturday relatively open. Is there anything we can’t miss?? Restaurants or local flavor?

I didn’t want to be rude to our Charlotte people earlier and say “… no, not really” but from the lack of responses I’d say they agree.

Downtown Charlotte is pretty nice in the evenings, especially Friday and Saturday night. There are some nice restaurants and shops to browse.

Other than that, there’s not a lot to see. Charlotte in general has good restaurants, though. They’ve rejected chain restaurants there, largely, in favor of local places.

Charlottean here. That’s the problem with Charlotte, it’s a great place to live, but not very exciting to visit.

The White Water Center is interesting if you have a swimsuit and an afternoon free. Otherwise walk the downtown (known as “Uptown”) and see a few art museums. Nascar museum might be interesting if you like Nascar, but I’ve been told it’s only OK.

Be sure to check out Charlotte’s Web.

Just kidding. But there has to be someone who took advantage of the name, right?

Not rude at all. **FasterThanMeerkats** pretty much nailed it… as long as you substitute “great” with “pretty nice.”

I gotta try to resuscitate the thread. We leave on Thursday morning. Is there anything, shopping or restaurant or culture that we need to see? Don’t want to have to much downtime in a strange city.

No, just make sure you hit downtown between 7 pm and midnight on Friday or Saturday. You will almost certainly find something you like to do there, one way or another.

You could try eating eating very small meals at a few different restaurants one evening, just so you can taste a number of dishes.

Seriously, Charlotte restaurants are awesome. There’s a little Nicaraguan place on N. Tryon St. that has _excellent_ authentic Nicaraguan cuisine, I really love their ceviche and guacamole, but everything’s good.

Also, scroll to the bottom of this link for several short reviews on some good Charlotte restaurants.

Go to Charlotte hungry, I advise.
