Going to Japan

Probably want to do some math on that. If you’ll be riding the bullet trains a lot, it can save you a ton of money - but if you’re spending most of your time in one or two cities, it might be a waste. Wife and I went to Japan in 2010, and the rail pass was a good deal; we went again last fall, and this time the rail pass would have been a waste, as we only rode the bullet trains twice.

I second that. I did the math, and we’ll pretty much be in two cities in April, with short side trips out of Kyoto. We’d be paying way more for the pass than just what the regular fares cost. April was a nice time to visit Japan. We scheduled our trip to match the cherry blossoms (sakura). It was cold and windy in Nagano, but warm everywhere else. It was a bit more humid than I’m used to.

Coming from Bangkok, humidity won’t be an issue.
