# Gold rings and eyelids

How is it that a gold wedding ring is supposed to get rid of a sty, by rubbing the ring on your eyelid?

I have tried this and it worked: I can’t dismiss it as an old wives’ tale.

I had heard it was something to do with the molecular structure of gold, but can’t see how this is correct.
