Golden Age of Computer Gaming

[QUOTE=Dijon Warlock]

My favorite game was called “Archon,” which I can’t find my copy of anymore, but I would love to play it again. It was a sort of chess game where the pieces couldn’t just capture each other: they had to fight. Plus, the squares changed color, which changed the strengths of the pieces that were on them. Plus, the “kings” had magic spells. Plus, it made cool noises that were really funny when you were young and chemically altered (hypothetically speaking, of course).

You know there were three sequels?

Archon 2-Adept had four wizards on each side, alll monsters were summoned by spell, they were all new monsters and the powerpoints moved.

I have never gotten to play Archon 3.

About 10 years ago, Archon Ultra came out for the pc. The action takes place in 3d(including flying creatures being able to fly over ground pieces in battle). Every creature now has two powers instead of one. The graphics are updated.

Archon was also rereleased with updated graphics (and confusing cycling barriers) for the NES.

As should be obvious, I LOVE Archon.

DocCathode, you have caused me to drool uncontrollably. No, I didn’t realize there were ANY sequels to this game.

Aw, man…I gotta go hunting now. I loved Archon, too.

Finally, a purpose in life.

…or another one, at least.
