Granted, its no fine dining venue, but is “clean”, “friendly”, “well stocked” too much to expect? I didnt want to make a huge deal of it by hunting up the (non-existent) manager or the (non-appearing) waitperson and pointing out that the women’s bathroom was filthy and the toilets didnt seem to work (or no one was bothering to flush after #2), the tables werent stocked, the food was cold and kids were running around eating at the troughs unsupervised. DH likes the place and I didnt want to spoil it for him. It turns my stomach when the bathrooms are gross and I just cant even eat after seeing that, much less having a full bladder thru the whole “meal”. Then the Smoking Gauntlet outside the restaurant when leaving … No 15-feet-away-from-doorway-rule observed here! Just light up and puff away blowing it in everyone’s faces as they leave! Share! I pit the management for not riding heard on the lacky employees and supervising the food lines and bathrooms. The clientele is another matter. ---

I happen to like HomeTown Buffet occasionally, but the Mrs. loathes such places. I can’t blame her (or you); even when clean, efficient etc. they tend to attract 400-pound chain smokers with their six bratty kids. I was almost knocked out of my chair once by a muu-muu’ed mama intent on getting to the fresh pan of fried chicken at any costs. ---

I recall going to a Chinese buffet in Crystal, MN with the then-wife. In the center table there were two 400+ pound women gorging themselves. The table was piled high with dirty plates - must’ve been 20 of them. Around each of them on the floor was a circle of food particles - a thick and heavy circle, enough to feed an entire family. Every time the staff would walk past, they could not mask their horror. If they were banned for life after that visit, I wouldn’t dream of faulting the owners - if only for the horrible mess they were creating. Never been to a Golden Corral. Some friends used to like to go to Old Codger Buffet every once in a while, but I was never very impressed. ---

Any attempt to improve the human gene pool could get a good start by sterilizing anyone who eats at Golden Corral/Hometown Buffet/Cicis. Those people are suicidal to begin with. ---

Well, blaming the victim _is_ the easy response, especially when the actual perpetrator is apparently not the venue itself, but the victim’s SO. ---

Not all GCs are the same. The DH says ones in VA and other places in IL are clean, friendly and dont suck! Buffets per se arent the problem, its the people who make pigs of themselves and the ones who let their debbil spawn run wild. A person can make healthy choices and eat well at them really for a decent price. As long as you can roll with the idea of eating at a multi-ethnicity family-picnic type affair and dont get offended by bad manners youre good. The filth … I cant deal with it. ---
