How much does a bar of gold weigh?

Apparently, It’s not a question good enough for Cecil and the Gang as they suggested that I should contact this message board.

How much does a rock weigh?

Smart-assedness aside, the brick-sized “standard mint bars” at [Fort Knox](http://www.ustreas.gov/education/fact-sheets/currency/fort-knox.html) weigh about 27 and 1/2 pounds each.

You’re welcome.

Gold also comes in the more convenient [1 ounce size](http://goldinfo.net/suisse.html). [This page](http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/goldbarsinfo.html) lists a number of commonly traded weights, from the aforementioned 27.5 pound (12.5 kilogram) bricks on down to little-bitty quarter-ounce…um…“slips” I guess you could call them. Or does “slips” only apply to [latinum](http://www.startrekexp.com/store/ds9_slip_of_lat.html)?

Geez…they have 1 gram gold bars? They’re only [15 millimeters](http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/goldbardimensions.html) long…it’s a little baby bar!
