Because you’ll change your mind someday and want to be a _real_ woman, you silly goose. And then you won’t be able to have all those wonderful babies all women truly want, deep down. It’s just foolishness to make such a permanent decision that you’re going to regret.

Why, no, I’m not bitter or defensive at all.

Because they seem to think they know better.

They know how my life should unfold, they know what would be best for me, they know that if I don’t have children, I’ll either
a) regret it for the rest of my life,
b) turn into a selfish bitter twisted barren old woman, or
c) both.

Some people are just convinced that the way they lead their life, or the way most people lead their life is the only way, and any other path is because you’re a nasty person, don’t know your own mind or had some horrific childhood trauma. Some people just have no understanding of ‘each to their own’ or are unable to refrain from judging other people’s lives as inferior to theirs, to make themselves feel better (I assume)

The lunacy would be funny if it wasn’t so frequent, predictable and spiteful.

Oh. I guess I would have figured that out if my brain cells hadn’t been sucked out by my three kids:D

We women are just walking uteri, don’t you KNOW that?

When I got engaged EVERYBODY started asking when we were going to have kids. WTF??? Hello, we weren’t getting married for MONTHS, and I had school to finish! Not for a couple of years at the very least, and probably more since I’ve just about decided to not even try for my own.

Apparently married people are only getting married to reproduce. Funny, in that town, I thought getting married was to legitimize the sex you were already having but wouldn’t admit to. Very very very conservative.

I’m sorry to hear that hurt so much!

It’s my opinion that the cervix is a particularly unforgiving piece of tissue. I think it really doesn’t like to be passed up by anything unless it is personally giving permission to do so. Lots of folks think the cervix is kind of donut shaped, but it is really longer and more tubular than a donut (smaller, too).

As the owner of an incompetant cervix (and isn’t it rude to talk about someone’s cervix like that!) I’ve come to the conclusion that jacking around with the cervix can cause lots of problems later on. Apparanty, I had a one baby cervix, but managed to get two kids out of it (but just barely).

Used to be you had to have a repeated second trimester loss of pregnancy before someone thought ‘hey, mebbe i should take a second look at the cervix.’ I truly believe this. Because so many first pregnancies are lost (some think as high as 50%), the first loss was not looked at as too unusual. When a second pregnancy was lost, it took until the third one to catch the cervix in the act. Man, that’s three pregnancies!

Lots of fertility patients seem to wind up in the hospital during pregnancy with cervical (and other) problems (dilated or funneled cervix, cerclages in place, etc). I know that it is understood that fertility patients have trouble getting pregnant, but they really have trouble staying pregnant at much higher rates that the regular population and the cervix in frequently a problem for them. Perhaps the various testing the patients undergo has disrupted the cervix. I don’t think that is talked about enough.

Also, if one has undergone any cervical proceedures (leep, cone, , anything involving the endometrium and I’m suspicious of IUI’s, too), I think the Doc’s should really keep an eye on that cervix.

I used to do IUI’s (intrauterine inseminations) (hey, does that make me a mother and a father?) (Just Joking!) for a fertility Doc. She taught me how to do it. She used to grab the cervix with a, well, cervix grabber to you lay folk (teneculum). It looked horrible and applying my ‘unforgiving bit of tissue’ philosophy, I just couldn’t use the grabber. I used a ‘North South West East’ technique where I moved the speculum to various places to try to straighten the cervical canal so as to pass the catheter containing the sperm without insulting the cervix. Really, I thought, if one is attempting to get pregnant, would it not be better to at least try to not piss off the cervix?

Well, that’s my cervix rant. Thankyouverymuch.

Wow, Ca3799, I’ve never seen the word cervix so many times in one reading before 🙂

I was keenly interested in this whole essure thing until I discovered I’m having munchkin 2 also by C Section (which means I again won’t have to irritate the moody cervix - it didn’t want to open for kid one!) So I spoke with my OB and will be getting a tubal since I will already be wide open with my ovaries on my chest:eek:

I also wanted to say that kids aren’t for everyone. Not everyone wants them and for very personal reasons. I’ve read a lot of Goo’s postings on the issue and really respect her determination to seek this procedure despite the unwillingness of the doctors.

Honestly … it is a sad society that would rather force a woman to risk pregnancy and maybe end up with a child whom she did not want and was resentful towards than to let her get essured (or whatever procedure she wants)

Go Goo 🙂

How very bizarre. The hamsters not only ate my post, but threw me into another forum altogether.

I was wondering if there’s any reason they couldn’t, or shouldn’t, just go on and take **tanookie** ’s uterus out while they’ve got her open. The standard argument in favor of TL rather than hysterectomy is that it’s less invasive, but they’ve already got her open and her uterus cut up. Why not just take it out instead of sewing it up and stuffing it back in, if she’s getting sterilized one way or another?

And **tanookie** , _THANK YOU_ for your post. Your sensitivity and understanding shows that, clearly, you’re one of the good breeders. 😉

Well heck while they’re in there… wonder if I can get some lipo too to help remove some of that lovely baby fat? 🙂

Why not just do like I’ve seen them do on emergency vets… they take the uterus out with babies inside… then they get the babies out while another doc sews mom up… since they’re gonna just sterilize the doggies and kitties anyway!

Oh and I got the joke 🙂

Amen! I’ve never understood why people (on either side of the fence) get so bent out of shape over this issue. This is America. That means it’s my right to decide whether or not I have kids, and it’s your right to decide whether or not you have kids! Furthermore, if I decide to have kids, it’s my right to decide how many I want, not someone else’s job to tell me “Only children are so lonely!”, or, “Five kids?!?! What are you trying to do? Set a record?”

It’s all about personal decisions, and people who can’t say something supportive about it should just shut the hell up!

**Tanookie** & **Norinew** ,

Your posts are greatly appreciated. _Greatly._

Thank you. 🙂

I wish more people were as open-minded, unjudgemental and easy-going as you both obviously are. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness, enjoying the freedom to make your own life decisions, no matter what those decisions are.

**CCL** are we long-lost sisters ? 😉

Glad you are feeling fine now, **Goo**.

I have read that this procedure (like every other in this category) has a success rate of 99.x%. I wonder if the 0.y% doesn’t bother
the shit out of people!

I mean, to go through this, and yet not _feel_ completely safe… (are we destined to use a second form of birth control, like condoms?)
