Is anybody else thinking that **OAOW** tinkered with the result of his investigation result a bit to frame McGinty? It looks like he might get away with it, too.

> I seem to recall that his specific objection was that he’d spent a good amount of time putting together a case, only to find out he’d been killed midday. That’s got to be frustrating.

He was a Necromancer. Who raised Zombies.

The “case” he was working on was a proposal to [resurrect the dead Cop](http://psychopathgame.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=stuff&thread=366&post=25900).

Then this happened.

[D05.150](http://psychopathgame.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=stuff&thread=366&post=26067).

[D05.159](http://psychopathgame.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=stuff&thread=366&post=26076)

[D05.163](http://psychopathgame.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=stuff&thread=366&post=26080)

I think at that point, we’d given up on no lynching, but Storyteller could still have resurrected the Day 5 lynch victim. He was killed to stop him form undoing the Demon’s work.

Oh, I remember, but a kill that resolved at Dusk still would have stopped him from using that power.

I distinctly remember story on the spoiler boards(since lost) saying that he was working on cases against NAF and maybe Smurf, but was killed before he could present them.

Right, which is why I included the “albeit”. I can certainly see how **Story** could object to an ordinary Day-kill resolving immediately, but still allow immediate hitchhiking.

Absolutely perfect. I was confused as to why Cookies had been going after OAOW so much. Her being third-party clears that up nicely. Now, assuming that the Town doesn’t completely lose their minds, they’ll remember that their original suspicion of OAOW should still stand(plus, they really need to realize that there are way too many claimed investigators right now).

I’m not sure how they’re going to catch lilflower, though. I’m worried that they’re going to start hunting in the vanilla pool next.

ETA: I have to wonder, though. Was Cookies holding back, or was she even unluckier as an SK/SK apprentice than I was?

Was that a spoiler, or just speculation on your part? The first paragraph looks like you’re unspoiled, but then you’re so confident there.

If it was a spoiler, you should probably ask a mod to edit that out.

I don’t know; it seems plausible to me. There’s nothing inherently unlikely about a single-shot backup role (I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that in games before), and the way she claims to have used that power is about right for how a Townie should have used it (yeah, “not deadite” isn’t the most useful piece of information, but it was about the best that was available, given who had died at that point). Also in support of her claim is the fact that **Stanislaus** ’s PM said that someone else might be able to make use of his notes if he died, and nobody else has claimed a power consistent with that. And even if they do decide to thin the vanilla pool first, she’s effectively vanilla now, so they might still kill her anyway. Myself, though, I’d rather see McG die first.

Actually, another thought occurs to me: **NAF** told us that anyone holding the Necronomicon would investigate as Scum and their actions would look like attempted kills, but I don’t think we’ve yet seen any powers claimed, except for **Wanderers** ’ zoom lens, for which that could apply. It didn’t fool the Religious Figure’s holy mojo into branding him, the Tomboy wouldn’t ask “who killed so-and-so” if that person didn’t actually die, the Programmer’s power just gives a number (though I guess it could have been 66666), and the Witch’s clay statue and the Reporter’s police contact only give role, not alignment. What’s left?

I have a question about this game (Mafia in general not Evil Dead in particular): is there any reason why dialogue cannot be in character, as in, “I’m going to go into the attic and see what is making those scratching noises-and yeah \<cachuck\> I’m bringing my Boomstick.” Is there a way to run the game where such role-playing would be de riguer?

Rysto, is it just the lilflower’s claim or is there more?

John, I’m not sure what you mean. Are you saying is there a proscription that prevented Mrs. McGinty from referencing her gun earlier in the game? I don’t believe there’s anything against it. Sometimes a player will get a posting restriction where they must post in a certain way or avoid a certain topic. When a character drops references to their role in posts it is called breadcrumbing. Everyone has a different opinion on the utility of breadcrumbing but it’s certainly valid strategy. Some games players will be strongly encouraged to post in the manner of their character in the game. Misterblockey just ran a halloween themed game on idlemafia where Dirx did a wonderful job posting as Columbo, the detective.

See also **Autolycus** in M2, who made all of his posts with a southern Italian “accent”. Even though he turned out to not, in fact, be a Mafioso.

There’s a limit to how in-character you can be, though, while having Mafia-style discussions. I mean, really, a lot of things in the game don’t make sense from a realism standpoint (like **Cookies** the alien queen passing as a human, to name one recent example). Plus, of course, you might not want to give away something like the fact that you have a boomstick, since if the Scum think you’re a power role, they’ll kill you on the first Night.

On the other hand, if you’re VT, it’s not a bad idea to drop a fake power role tell in an effort to draw scum fire.

Or because you used up the last of your talismans last Night, and are trying to bluff the Scum away from killing **Normal**. In which case, it probably would have been better to not say anything.

Sure, if you can pull it off. I’ve tried to do that whenever I’ve been vanilla, and it hasn’t worked yet.

If you try too hard scum will avoid you because they’ll think you’re laying a trap. It’s never worked for me either, but every once in a while I give it a go. It’s been so long since I’ve been VT, though.

I successfully, if unintentionally, managed to fool the wolves into thinking I was the Seer in the last Conspiracy game, simply by talking about what the Seer might do that Night. Unfortunately, while I knew they were thinking that, I didn’t think they were seriously thinking that, so I didn’t defend myself when I could have.
Oy! is being very complimentary in the thread, but I don’t think I played very well this game, and I certainly don’t think there are more scum in my list of investigation targets. It was actually my first time being any kind of town power role, and I made the big error of focusing too much on my powers and not enough on just playing the game. E.g: special ed pinged me early, so I investigated - but I didn’t follow it up with analysis, thinking that if he were scum the best way to show was with an investigation result. And of course, he died before I claimed so it was a complete waste of time. If I had made a case then either he would have swung or at the least we would have found other scum in the vote patterns. It was complacent and lazy. If Normal and I hadn’t found Cookies, I’d have had precisely zero effect on the outcome of this game.

You did a good job of not dying early. That’s an underrated contribution.
Also your list of numbers will be able to clear people of certain actions. For example, lets say a Normal Phase manages to investigate a kill and determines that ##### did the killing. If ##### matches one of your investigations then you’ve got another one. And even if ##### doesn’t match, you’ve _cleared_ several players from being the murderer. That’s actually very powerful information.

Just to add another instance to the discussion. A long while back there was a minigame run on Idle’s site that had everyone posting in LOL Cat pictures only. It was a lot of fun, but it was difficult to make the game last. I think “in character” games can work on a small scale like that, but they have to be shorter or the novelty wears off and it becomes annoying that you can’t express yourself easily.
