Another rule of thumb is that rhyming names can be good, and names whose words are unlike each other can be good, but if they don’t rhyme but sound similar the name is not so good. For instance, a friend of mine thought that “Bovine Morons” would be a GBN (good band name). I said that while it wouldn’t be bad, “Bovine Idiots” would be even better because Morons sounds too close to Bovine while not rhyming. ---

Back in the days of punk there was a local band with the charming name of **The Fanny-Licking Belt Whippers**. Bear in mind, in the UK, a fanny is a vagina. I’d have loved to have seen them on Top Of The Pops. ---

My favourite at the moment is **Times New Viking** , which oscillates wildly between terribly cool and the lamest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. I like that. ---

My favourite has always been former Sydney band _Attila the Hun and the Panel Beaters_. For non Aussies a panel beater is an auto body man. ---

I once conceived of a band to be called _P.H. Nowell-Smith and the Bananas_. All members would be dressed as bananas on stage, except the keyboardist/lead vocalist (not me), who would be a skinny guy in a tweed jacket wearing giant spectacles. Of course, what with being unable to sing or play an instrument, and all my friends thinking it was a terrible idea, it never got off the ground. ---
