Good Books Which Became Good Movies

I was pleasantly surprised by The Cider House Rules. I loved the book and liked the movie quite a bit.

Heart of Darkness/Apocolypse Now.

What were the novels that resulted in each show?

Not quite to the topic here but I thought Stephen King’s The Dead Zone was a better movie than a book, which surprised me.

Back on topic, Stand By Me by Stephen King was pretty close to the original story. (Original story was ‘The Body’ from Different Seasons, same place as Shawshank Redemption and Apt Pupil.)
Silence Of the Lambs is one that I enjoyed both the book and the film, though they were very close.
Okay, so I read a lot of what I call “junk food for the brain”.

I’d like to agree with a few

Godfather

To Kill a Mockingbird

also Wizard of Oz

Gazoo, I also sent an email to you on this subject but thought I’d back it up here because my emial has been a little messed up lately, and I want to get the message through. Please DO read Starship Troopers, by Robert Heinlein. About the only things the book and the movie had in common were Bugs and the title. Their ideas, outlooks and philosophies were so different there is no comparison. It is one of my favorite adult novels of his, the other two being The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Double Star.

Of Mice and Men (the original-with Burgess Merideth)
To Kill A Mockingbird
The Shining
The World According to Garp

This is, without a doubt, the WORST effort of from book to screen. The movie had nothing whatsoever to do with the book. The only similarities are in the title.

Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep filmed with Bogart playing Marlowe.
