Good chance I'll be working at McDonald's soon. Advice?

Oh yeah, my coworkers want to call me “Pre” because I run to work (don’t have a car, and not sure yet where I’d stash my bicycle). After Prefontaine, the running legend of the 70s. Not sure what to think of that. :dubious:

YAY for you getting a job!
When my daughter is in school full time next year, I will find myself on the job market for the first time in 8.5 years. If that isn’t scary, I don’t know what is.

My options, to work around the kids schedule around these parts are: McDonalds, Taco Bell ( not a chance*) and the local grocery store. I’ve never worked in either feild, but really, I don’t care. If it pays money, I’ll shovel poo. (which I could work at the local dairy farm except I would probably end up setting the cows free or something and either eating all the ice cream they produce and becoming a Fat Bastard or hating my beloved Ice Cream after a day of scooping for the public.

*Taco Bell here has a very high turn over rate because apparently the manager doesn’t follow SOP for fast food rules.
I suppose I could work for the local Stop N Rob, but I refuse to sell cigerettes to anyone. Just call me the Carrie Nation of my day.

I’ve just killed this thread.

Blalron, if you have the time, I’m interested in this new hiring process they seem to have implemented. I’m always surprised when I see the help wanted signs on McD’s here that specify “Apply Tuesday at 3:00” or whatever. Useta be, they’d hire anyone, anytime, and put 'em right to work, forget the training video, Joe didn’t show up this morning and we’re getting slammed. Are they trying to raise their standards?

I’m not sure. But I think it was a case where the main Manager had to the make the final call, but the assistant manager was the one really doing the interviewing. The second interview was very brief and it was with the Manager.

I worked at a Wendy’s for two years. It was good. We probably had the hardest working fast food crew in history.

My last job at Dress cough sucked royal ass. It wasn’t the customers (who I collectively adored) it were the other employees. Or one specifically who decided to cause a hostile work enviroment (along with grunting at me like an animal…such as class act). When someone caught me in tears, I finally told them what was going on. The manager told me that I had made it all up, there was no hostile enviroment and that I needed to learn to be a team player. I quit on the spot (she would have gotten notice if she would not have been such a royal bitch).

I worked there circa '86 and we got an entire week’s orientation, training videos and all. So maybe it’s not raising or lowering their standards so much as Corporate has always wanted XYZ procedures followed, but individual managers make do as store needs dictate.

I wonder what the morale is like working there now. Oddly enough, that was the only job I had as a teenager where the morale was high. Other crap jobs were considered drudgery and the attitude was just try and do the minimum and endure, but working there was like joining the Super Happy Fun cult, weird.

Okay, we’ve just found out that that does not apply. But I would recommend washing your face when you take a meal break, and again at the end of your shift. That grease will get into your pores; it’s imperative that you keep yourself clean.
