One of mine was the year before last, and the other was just this past weekend, and both involve bikes.
The year before last I was hauling some stuff to the dump, and I spotted a bike that didn’t look like it belonged there. It was a Ross Compact, in a pretty blue, and was original from the '70’s, with the original tires (dry rotted) and the translucent coloured tape on the drop bars. I brought it home, cleaned it up, put air in the tires and rode it. A bonus feature was the fact that it free-wheels at the crank! It’d be interesting to know what it’s worth.
The second incident, this past weekend is similar. At our church rummage sale I found an original Schwinn Varsity, all parts there and original, incl. the tires, which looked completely unworn on the tread, although a little dry on the sidewalls. $9.00. Cleaned up beautifully, and rides like a dream; you can’t even hear the derailleur bearings turning over!

WOW. That sounds like some great bargains indeed. Let’s see, one of the best I’ve gotten recently was a few months ago when I went to a yard sale, and found a bunch of Dockers, Bugle Boys, and other name brand khaki slacks in my son’s size, along with some very nice shirts. I brought home 8 pairs of slacks, 4 shirts for him, and 3 tops for my daughter, and only paid $11 for the lot! The slacks were clean, pressed, and hanging on hangers too, as were the shirts.

I forgot about yard sales! Back in June I found a brown leather bomber jacket, in perfect shape except for a needed cleaning. $10.00.
My wife said I need to go garage saling with her more often.

Haven’t had much luck with finding things, but I’m about to have a big yard sale. Lots of military uniforms and other military paraphernalia. I think whoever shows up will feel lucky…

While rummaging through a discount bin at a St. Vincent De Paul I found a copy of “Hounds of Love” signed by Kate Bush. Obscure, yes, but it made my day.
Recently I came across an old atari 2600 and a bunch of old cartridges for $8.00 at a garage sale. A bargain? Probably not really, but worth it to me.

My best deal was when I was trying to buy a new car and the internet companies were trying to drum up business and they didn’t mind subsidizing my car purchase to the tune of $2000. Unfortunately (for you, not me) they have stopped doing that because they have figured out they really can’t make much money when they just give it away like that.

The car I drive now a 87 Ford Escort I bought in 98 (Id just gotten divorced and was still paying off stuff, and couldn’t do better at the time) I purchased from the City of Sunnyvale (california) for a whopping \*\* $299 \*\* other than tuneups Ive had no problems with it.
