When I was a kid, a revival house near me showed “War of the Worlds” and “When Worlds Collide.” For a young geeklet (both of SF and of movies/special effects) it was the perfect combo. ---

Supernatural detective/noir movies: \*Angel Heart \* and _Constantine_. (I’ve never seen _Lord of Illusions_, but I hear it might fit with those two as well.) “Everything you know may be false” noirish sci-fi: _Dark City_, _The Matrix_, and _The 13th Floor_. Hunter S. Thompson movies: _Where the Buffalo Roam_ (with Bill Murray) and _Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas_ (with Johnny Depp). John Cusack festival: _Say Anything_, _Grosse Pointe Blank_, _High Fidelity_. (These are even better if you can make up a chain of events connecting the three movies into a shared continuity and proving Cusack is playing the same person at different points in his life, regardless of the characters’ different names.) Action heroes with mullets: _They Live_ (with Roddy Piper), \*Hard Target \* (with Jean-Claude Van Damme). ---
