Good god...I bought a Coach bag.

Sigh.

Can’t we all just get along?
Thank you for the additional well wishes and compliment, shayna! I’m blushing here! I also wish you the best and I’m happy that there’s at least one Doper who’s genuinely wishing me well and giving me sound and wise advice from someone with experience. Here’s to hoping my next boss isn’t a tyrant or a pig!

Eh. I wasn’t all that offended. It just seemed to me obvious why phrasing things as you did might have pushed a few buttons. And I don’t think I or anyone would expect you to apologize for holding a different view.

Oh, I get it. You don’t actually see that you phrased things badly, you’re just nailing yourself to a cross because people took issue with your phrasing. Nevermind then.

Listen, post or don’t, as you see fit, but don’t expect me to take the credit or blame because I won’t.

Penchan - why didn’t you take the job? Did something better come along?

Oh I answered this in post #158:

“Unfortunately the job turned out to be a MLM that ran exactly like DS-MAX . So my feet hurt since I went through the field with my ‘mentor’. I’m pissed because the company advertised itself as a company that was hiring managers, but you have to go through all that crap to get to be a manager. No thank you. That’s ok, at least I got a pretty bag out of all of this.”

Feel free to go back to that post to click on the links from there. I don’t want to wiki it again…kinda makes me sad and mad to even think about them.

I have interviews this week so wish me luck! They’re all temp jobs but you have to start somewhere!

Oops! Here I am grousing about my posts not being read! I saw that point was addressed to Shayna and skimmed over it.

Well that sucks. That happened to me a couple of times (oh so many moons ago) when I was on the hunt for my first job out of school. It really does suck - for one of the “jobs” I wound up in the middle of nowhere expected to try to sell crap to random people. No thanks - I called my mom and she picked me up and she and I went shopping instead! (Hey - at least I come by my addiction honestly! :))

That’s great - I started at the University I work at as a temp (again, about a million years ago). It really is a great way to get your foot in the door and not only show your potential employers how great you are, it’s also a chance to decide if it’s a place that you’d even want to work at.

Good luck! And congrats again on your pretty purse. They really do tend to be addictive.

I know, I was suspicious too. So I called my boyfriend and he looked them up online. He found out that they weren’t exactly scamming people, just working them hard for little to no pay. He said I deserved better than that and picked me up right in the middle of the interview! He really was my knight in shining armor when he left in the middle of his work (he’s a freelance programmer) to pick me up and make sure I didn’t sign any papers with them.

I also celebrated by going to his sister’s birthday party that night. It was great to spend some time with family and forget that embarrassing interview ever happened.

Thank you! Let’s hope it’s a good fit between me and the temp job. If things work out maybe I can expand my budding purse collection. :stuck_out_tongue:

Back while I was in school, I had an “interview” with a company which had advertised for positions which offered $10 an hour for sales or commission. (Back then it was a good wage, and get off my lawn.)

There were a whole bunch of us in a room, and as the session started, it became obvious that this was a MLM scheme, and that they weren’t going to actually pay a fixed hourly wage, people started getting up and leaving one by one. I was kind of killing time, so I stayed around long enough to ask some really stupid questions before I bailed.

I’m feeling really guilty right now because I’m thisclose to buying this:

But I can’t decide on the lilac or the mocha…

I bought the mocha.

Ooh, pretty!

Hey! That’s nifty!

And I really will get years of use out of that. I’ve been using the same cheap, ratty wheeled case for years now, and I’m sick of it.

Congrats on the new bag! I hope the wheels last! And I agree on the mocha

Ooooooh, but if I was rich I’d have gotten both.

Ah, the seasonal and imported “Kangaroo Brown”.

I got the new Vera Bradley catalog yesterday, and have been poring over it ever since! I ordered this bag today, and a matching umbrella. I don’t know what the colors look like on everyone else’s computers, but they look overly vibrant on mine…much prettier in person/in the catalog!

I’m trying to talk myself into replacing my Stone Mountain bag - I have this one or at least it’s very close to it (got it from someone about ten years ago and it’s lasted all this time) but I’m having some sticker shock. Ladies - please TALK ME INTO IT!!

Go for it! You deserve it and will use it! Do iiiiit!

That is a really lovely purse and if you will get the use out of it, go for it.

Though I will say, you may want to check out your local TJ Maxx, Ross, or whatever yours is called. Often they will have bags (maybe not that specific brand, but real leather, great craftsmanship, regularly priced at over $100) much like that one for $20.

I second this! I ALWAYS check out those places first…you can get some great-looking bags, even some designer brands, for great discounts. Marshall’s is also a good one, or a Nordstrom Rack if you have one near you.
