TIL that the song was originally a carol for St. Stephen’s Day (although I guess the first line should have told me that). I didn’t even know that St. Stephen’s Day has carols. ---

I always thought of it as _Good King What’s -His-Face looked out_ _On the Feast of Stephen_ It’s one of the songs in the Chrustmas Carol book we keep in the piano stoool, so I learned how to play it. I love that, in my _Penguin Dictionary of Saints_, they feel compelled to point out that the carol is not about Saint Wenceslaus, who is completely different from any king of that name, although the internet appears to think otherwise. ---
