So why French first?. i believe, but am not sure, that French is the official language of the Olympics. Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic movement, was French; and so I wouldn’t be surprised if “French first” was a legacy to the founder. ---

I have been turning this over in my head a bit as well-----All I can come up with is that somehow French seems more sophisticated and urbane than English, and certainly the Olympics is all about style and image. I would bet (a wild guess on my part) that at least 3 of 4 native Canadians speak English as a first language… ETA-----wasnt Pierre de Coubertin actually Swiss? ---
