# Good news for Redskins fans...or is it? Spurrier resigns, maybe.

This has been an interesting morning for Redskins fans (of which I am not one). First, ESPN reports that Steve Spurrier resigned over the phone, then just two hours later the Washington Post reports that Spurrier is claiming that he didn’t resign.
[Here](http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1696792) is the most recent article from ESPN. Nobody is sure what’s going on yet.
Just another day in the life of those wild and crazy Washington Redskins and their wacky owner, Daniel Snyder.
So, what’s the verdict here? Is it goodbye to the Fun-And-Gun, or hello to another year of Spurrier and mediocrity? Personally, I hope he stays another year. It’s fun to look at the despair on the faces of the local Redskins faithful. 😃

Touche, **JC** , but at least they made the playoffs last year, and will again next year, while the Redskins are about as likely to make the playoffs next year as I am to bear and birth a baby.
Speaking of which, make sure your soon to be born child roots for a good team. Like Pittsburgh. 😃

Good Pittsburgh sports teams?
Penguins … nope. Pirates … less so. Steelers … e r? No NBA team.
Philly, OTOH … Flyers are decent to good this year, I think. Eagles are, well I’m sure **Steelerphan** can fill us in on them. The 76ers are doing well enough an the Phillies did better than the Pirates:D
Now, since I know you’re going to talk about how we don’t have a baseball team in DC (first in times of war and peace, last in the AL East), **Airman** , I’ll raise you an Oriole team that signed Miguel Tejada and Javy Lopez, a football team with a championship fairly recently and a Washington Capital team that made the Stanley Cup playoffs not long ago (and got swept, yes, I know). I make no excuses for the state of the Wizards. In my defense, though, they let Michael Jordan go, so clearly management is legally insane.

As a fan of the Redskins, all I can say is Good Riddance. Didn’t like the guy. Didn’t like rooting for his team. Now if we could get rid of Danny Snyder…

I’d count it as good news, since we knew Spurrier really wasn’t likely to figure out in Year 3 whatever it was that eluded him in Year 1 and Year 2.
But this means Snyder has to figure some things out quickly, too. And his track record isn’t good here. He’s got to find a new head coach who can (a) bring order and discipline to the Redskins (this whole city is so frickin’ tired of the 'Skins always making mistakes), (b) without yet one more 180-degree turn in the approach to team-building (Norv to Schottenheimer to Spurrier has already been two complete changes of direction; we don’t need a third in four years), and © win.
I don’t see it happening. Snyder is so frickin’ star-struck that he’ll surely try to land Another Big-Name Coach, without thinking about the rest of it. And despite the Redskins’ clear need for a real, honest-to-goodness GM, he and Vinny will continue to run that show together.
My only hope is that being faced with repeated situations like this will eventually push Snyder along the learning curve, and that he will eventually get a clue.
It may be a long time coming.

Noticing **iampunha** ’s location, may I just say How 'bout them Colts? As for my other area teams, I suppose I’ll stick with Indianapolis/Indiana. Pacers are, I think, the best team in the East. We only have minor league hockey and baseball, though. But being a lifelong Cubs fan, I can say I was pretty happy with how this past baseball season turned out. Except for a certain 8th inning, but I’d rather not think about it.

**Rysto** , I don’t consider 5 years a long time ago, no. And **JimSox** , the Colts are one of many teams for whom I cheer (to disgusting levels, **fizzy** might insist) because they are my father’s team. I actually bear severe hatred for the Pacers (they have those semi-legendary fights with my Knicks)😃
It is nice to see someone figured out my location, though. I do wonder what I’ll use once the football season is over…

Don’t worry about hating the Pacers. I would call them my favorite team, but that’s just because of where I live. I don’t really follow basketball all that much. Baseball is my obssession, with some football to ease the pain after my Cubs damn near kill me every year.

I have never liked Spurrier and have been rooting against him since he turned pro. No I suppose I’ll have to give up my hatred of the 'skins.

Dan Snyder needs to figure out that he can’t buy himself a winning team, and certainly not by changing coaches every few years.
Of course, as a Steeler fan, what do I care?
**’punha** is certainly right about the Pittsburgh teams, but I have little doubt things are due to change. These things always go in cycles.
