Good news: My fridge did not burn my house down

“Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.”

I do wanna try those Mother Nature ice cubes once. Maybe we’ll get a frozen day or two this year.
Good luck. I’ve had my share of fridge problems. Never fun.

What Beck said. What a joy it was last august to come home after a week out of town to discover “a wonderful new smell” permeating the house.

Update:

My fridge is now fixed. The repairman was in a little while ago with the new part, and installed it quickly. The fridge is now running, and the cost was reasonable.

Of course, a lot of food was lost, and I will head to the supermarket later today, to replace it. That may cost me a bit, but that’s okay–better to have fresh things than unidentifiable glop.

Being that it was two weeks, it wouldn’t have been feasible, but if it was just a day or two you could have gotten away with dry ice (though it does take a lot). Another option would have been to freeze water bottle, like, a lot of water bottles and stick them in your fridge. Keep another batch outside and rotate them every few hours.
It certainly wouldn’t have been ideal, but it may have saved a few things and at least kept you from going outside every time you needed something.

It wasn’t like I was really going outside. I had the coolers right up against the sliding door to the deck, so all I had to do was slide the door open, open a cooler, get what I needed, and slide the door closed. There’s an awning of sorts above the door, so snow didn’t pile up on the coolers. A little inconvenient, but better than nothing.

Good ideas about the water bottles, Joey, thank you. I’ll keep that in mind when this fridge conks out for good (and hope that it doesn’t conk out for good at the height of summer). The repairman did say that this model was a sturdy workhorse, and with this repair, has a few more years remaining, but how many, he didn’t say. I guess I will indeed need a new fridge in a few years, but at least I’m okay for now.

We were out of town when the derecho hit 7½ years ago. Our power was still out when we got home but the shopping center about a half mile away had theirs; we bought bags of ice and put them in the fridge.

So did any bears or raccoons enjoy your outdoor cache? A lid on a cooler is merely an invitation to dinner.

Nope. No such wildlife locally. This time of year, the most exotic locally are deer, because the rattlesnakes are hibernating.

Yay!
