Good parallel universe stories

If you want to strike out in a totally different (and very silly) direction, then why not try Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula.

I very much liked it but I haven’t tried the sequel; any good? Part of the fun was looking up the various vampires. They even mention Blackula!

Which is why I mentioned it in post #7.

You might want to try out this search engine.

This reminds me of another one … “Queen Victoria’s Bomb” by Ronald Clark - what might have happened if the Victorians had invented the nuclear bomb?

The Bloody Red Baron (WWI) wasn’t too shabby, but Judgement of Tears (1950’s) was a bit of a let down IMO.

‘Thor Meets Captain America’ is available online at http://www.davidbrin.com/thor1.html

Thanks, I’ve recently read another of David Brin’s short stories and I’m going to have to check out more of his work, he displays an optimism and sense of hope that’s missing in so much of current science-fiction in my opinion.

Yeah, I really like his work too. He’s got a few other stories online at his website. I meant to mention that “Thor meets Captain America” has been expanded into a graphic novel called “The Life-Eaters”.

Nice. Thanks for the link.

I find it ironic, though, that given the title references, he ended up adapting this story for DC (and indeed, used only DC characters’ names in the main body).

The Watchmen.

Superhero driven universe, but the superheroes (specifically, Dr. Manhatten) allow the U.S. to win Vietnam. Nixon remains in power through the 1980s.
