From everything I’ve read, the judge sounds like she had wholly lost patience with him. He acted as his own attorney but mostly just rambled incoherently about the Bible and stuff. From **Cat Fight** ’s link: "…Jeffs had previously requested more time to prepare his defense, but the judge denied the request, saying she warned him about the difficulties of acting as his own attorney. Jeffs has a standby attorney who is only allowed to offer help and advice if Jeffs asks for it. … Some members of the jury were visibly irritated with Jeffs’ tactic of having his witness read from religious texts. One juror continually glanced at a clock in the courtroom, while others yawned and closed their eyes. … Prosecutors later played another clip of a different “training session” involving 12 girls, but Jeffs stood up and loudly spoke over the tape, talking about how a holy trust was being broken. The judge and jurors were wearing headphones to listen to the tape, and ignored Jeffs’ rambling. …" I always wonder when I get called to jury duty if it’ll be something spectacular like this. I can’t even _imagine_ some of the things the jury had to hear and see, let alone what those girls went through. **Twelve** year olds? Jeebus. ---

I’m just baffled about the thought process of these FLDS twits. “Ok… the authorities here in Utah are putting heat on us about pedophilia and other religious oddities. What do we do?” “I know! Let’s move our cult to Texas! You know, where there are tons of other Mormons, and lots of toleration for stuff like pedophilia, cults, and a fairly soft justice system to boot!” I remember wondering why in the world they’d move here- of all the places unlikely to tolerate any of those kinds of shenanigans, it would be West Texas. ---

Whenever you are baffled by the thought processes of FLDS, remember this: they all believe strongly in divine revelation. The prophet has spoken, so the thinking has been done. They went to Texas because _god told them to_. :rolleyes: God told Jeffs that he was sending younger and younger girls to him. For some reason. Anyway, my hope is that Jeffs will finally understand what it feels like to be a plural wife. Too bad he wasn’t sentenced for “time and all eternity.” Which brings up a point: Do you all realize that this is nothing to him nor his followers? He is sealed to all those women and girls for time and all eternity (that’s in the mormon scriptures). As far as they are concerned, this life + 20 prison sentence is just a blip on the radar because once Jeffs gets to his Celestial Kingdom, he will have all his brides back to live forever in polygamy, popping out eleventy billion spirit children so they can populate their own planets and become gods. Don’t believe me? Read the Book of Mormon. P.S. The mainstream mormons pretty much believe in the same thing. This is why Utah turns a blind eye to polygamy. Which underscores your point that going to Texas was the stupidest move ever, on Jeffs’ part. But if you read anything about the trial, it becomes patently clear very quickly that he is uneducated (home schooled on the compound just like everybody else there) and not exactly the brightest bulb in the cult. ---

This mornings paper stated that Jeffs had 24 underage wives. :eek: His wiki page stated that he had 20 men exiled from his compund, and those wives divied up amongst some of the other remaining men. How many wives did Jeffs claim to have? ---
