Sometimes the system works. Think the guy got life in prison on one charge, and 20 years on another charge, and the Judge ordered the sentences to be served consecutively. He’ll die in prison. That’s a kinder fate than he’d get if it was up to me, but good enough, and does not violate the 8th Amendment, as my choice of punishment surely would. Think he’s got another trial in Utah as well. ---

There have been rumors of unpunished murders in those communities for years - we _don’t know_ if there’s another subset of boys who are being killed rather than abandoned. All the community at large knows is that those boys are gone. All the boys abandoned know what happened to them. How many are unaccounted for, though? Does anyone know? If they were murdering some of the boys would anyone know, or just assume, since they’ve vanished, they were abandoned along the road like the ones we do know about? ---

Well okay, but if dispossession and abandonment have been working for them (and to the best of my knowledge they _have_), ISTM that choosing murder over those options in some cases would tend to needlessly complicate their operation. I won’t say that they’re not _more_ shitstainey if they _are_ murderers, but I will say that they’re not _less_ shitstainey if they aren’t… ---

On the other hand, how many of those abandoned boys end up speaking out about the fucked up shit that goes on inside that community? If there’s a tendency (or even a perceived tendency) for expelled members to bad mouth the church in public (or to the authorities), that might be impetus enough for them to “disappear” a bit more permanently. ---

Creepy audio clips where Warren Jeffs instructs his young wives in various ways. It sounds like someone is crying in the audio where he instructs them to be loyal to him. Yes, this guy most certainly does still have followers and they still think he’s the mouthpiece of god or whatever they call it. Many think he’s right and that their way is the proper way to live and there’s nothing wrong with old men marrying 12 year olds. In many instances, it’s the only way of life they’ve ever known. ---

If a guy steps out of line they’ll take wives from one member, breaking up families, and donate them to a church member more deserving. It’s all fucking sick. I saw a documentary out about the ‘lost boys’ awhile back but my google-fu isn’t strong enough right now to come up with anything other than that 80’s vamp-camp corey vehicle. ---
