And “Heebie Jeebies,” and “Ooh! My Soul” also by Little Richard.
Riding the Storm Out - REO Speedwagon
A perennial carnival rider’s favorite, as well as any and all Aerosmith songs.
I’d class these as either ‘Great Intro’ or ‘Great Way to Start A Song’, which ain’t necessarily the same thing…
Whole Lotta Love - Zep (obvious choice)
Hanging on the Telephone - Blondie
Close to the Edge - Art Of Noise
Revealing Science of God - Yes (one for the dinosaurs among us)
I Wish - Stevie Wonder (stunning riff upon riff upon riff)
Beat It - Whacko
Surfin USA - Beach Boys
Burning down The House - Talking Heads
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
Heat Is On - Glenn Frey
Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship
Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite - REM
One Night Stand - Misteeq
Straight To My Heart - Sting
If I Had A Photo Of You - Flock of Seagulls
Lotsa holes to fill here…
Most if not all Dire Straits songs…besides what was previously nominated, I would like to add “Brothers In Arms”, “Telegraph Road”, “Once Upon A Time In The West”, “Sultans of Swing”…
Pink Floyd - “One of These Days”, “Echoes”, “Time”, “Money”, “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Sheep”
Van Halen - “Hot For Teacher” - the brothers were working overtime on that one…
Rolling Stones - “Miss You”
Offspring - “Come Out and Play”, “Gone Away”, “Gotta Get Away”, “All I Want”, “The Kids Aren’t All Right”, “Special Delivery”
Peter Gabriel - “San Jacinto”
There’s more of course, but I got stuff to do…
Two of the best intros of all time:
House of the Risng Sun by the Animals
96 Tears by ? and the Mysterians
and another great one: Double Shot (of my Baby’s Love) by the Swingin’ Medallions
Princes of the universe-Queen.
“Fool Like You” – Ozzy
“Rain” – The Cult
“Wild Frontier” – Gary Moore
“Jet” – Paul McCartney & Wings
“Hair of the Dog” – Nazareth
“Jane” – Jefferson Starship
“T.N.T.” – AC/DC
“Hurricane Years” – Alice Cooper
Thunder Kiss '65 - White Zombie
God almighty, I feel like I’m 22 again when I hear that (and I was 30 when the song came out.)
(…rushes off to listen…)
I like the beginning of the (sort of) new Matchbox 20 song, Disease. It’s some kind of cool guitar effect or something. The song isn’t so great, but I just like the intro.
