McMaster is a genuine war hero, a term has been watered down to refer to anyone who saw combat as a hero. But he hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory as NSA, particularly in publicly defending some Trump policies when there didn’t seem to be any directive for him to do so.
It might be completely different behind the scenes, but his actions and overall performance seem to undercut the boldness of his reputation and “speak truth to power” constitutional responsibility ethos behind his dissertation.

I know I’m seen as some kind of crackpot tin-foil hat on this board, but it can’t be denied or blown off as "that’s just what they always say"now. Moves are being made, John Bolton is the national security advisor, and we all know who he is and what he has done. Nothing good is going to come from this.

Bolton was UN Ambassador under Bush. He was appointed as a recess appointment because he was too extreme for the Republican controlled Senate. I wish Bolton was just a Fox News blowhard, unfortunately, he’s very bright along with being an ultra hawk.

Anyone of these would be infinitely superior to the actual pick on the Reality TV show we call present-day America. Presumably the producers of this reality TV show (or whoever’s sponsoring the commercial messages) want to maximize suspense and excitement.
The main stream media knew this ahead of time, demonstrating once again that they’re actually pretty good at reporting the news.
And this is terrible for the country, if Bolton actually sways the President on anything. One of the biggest chickenhawk warmongers in the last few decades; if he gets his way, lots of young Americans (and even more from other countries) will die for nothing.
On one hand, I feel like Trump is rarely swayed by anyone. It’s hard for me to imagine Bolton talking him into authorizing something he didn’t already want to do. The trouble is if Bolton validates idiotic warmongering ideas by Trump, and enables him to start another debacle like the Iraq war…or far worse…something with North Korea.
