Alas, I weep for the loss of a bastion of journalistic integrity. I discovered a few years ago that at least _some_ of the stories were true, if inaccurately (and belatedly) reported. I know this because I actually knew the people mentioned in one of their stories. And believe it or not, the true story was actually more bizarre than the version that made it into WWN. It wasn’t too surprising that the WWN version was mixed up, as several years worth of connected events were condensed into four column inches. b…b…bbut How will I find out how that Bomber got on the Moon? Who will inform me what Satan’s new tricks are? What will give me an inside scoop into those scientists in Stockholm who were doing the types of research our puny scientists refuse to do! And where will I get my anual new Lost predictions from Nostradamus claiming that THIS is the year the world will really end? Sigh… It ain’t fair!!! I miss that old rag. I know the stories are fake but I like to read them anyway ---

My favorite WWN exclusive in recent years was the running story about Bin Laden and Saddam’s secret gay love affair. First the affair, then the wedding photos (Saddam in a dress), then Saddam was caught IRL and Bin Laden turned himself in to be with his love in prison. Oh, and did you know Dick Cheney is really a robot? There’s no real substitute for WWN. Too bad it’s gone. ---

My classmates and I had a subscription once. I can’t remember if it was for six months or a year…it was however long it takes to start seeing the same models posing in the photos illustrating the “news” articles. If you have to do assignments based on newspaper articles, it’s nice to spice it up with some Weekly World News if your teacher lets you get away with it. “And this week, all the Chinese people in China are going to get up on chairs and jump off at the same time, thus sending Earth spinning out of orbit!” ---
