I have a yahoo mail account dating back to before 2000 too, in fact it wasn’t even a yahoo mail account originally. I check it every year roughly.
I would love to hear about this weight loss ad though. What did the OP find wrong with it?

I’ve had problems with Gmail. The most noticeable was when I was expecting attachments on mass emails. Coworkers spoke of getting them but I had nothing in my Inbox or Spam. It can several hours later (6-8 hours IIRC ). It happened other times. Don’t know if it’s fixed
I have overkill: 2 Yahoo, 2 Gmail, and 1 on Microsoft Exchange. I probably got the 1 Yahoo in 1998 or something.
My AT&T DSL email is through Yahoo. Or at least it was. I haven’t signed into my AT&T homepage in a couple years. But, FAIK Yahoo is part of the DSL package. I never really had a need for their email and continued using the one at work.
Yahoo Mail user since late 1999. It’s funny, I find Yahoo Mail’s latest look its best yet - I don’t see any ads at all, it is clean and fast.
Using Firefox without AdBlock. I do use Ghostery, I have some of the bigger trackers blocked (DoubleClick, Right Media).
If your email isn’t worth having your own domain and hosting for a few bucks a year, you get what you deserve from the mass email providers.

Yes, I think so. I’ve done this, and I also habitually run by browser with JavaScript disabled (except when I really need it). I believe it was the “Basic Mode” that eliminated the context-sensitive (a.k.a. mail-snooping) ads, but I imagine Google still reads all my ads to build their infinite profile on me. Disabling JavaScript also eliminated a LOT of ads and other crap on a LOT of web sites, including here on SDMB.
