I was quite touched even though I know the birthday wishes come from cold electronic circuits Anyone know how long Google has been doing this? Did I miss it in previous years or is this a new thing?

A birthday wish but no gift, huh? Man, I can’t imagine how that must feel. Hey, just remember, it’s the thought that counts. 🙂

It was announced on [October 16, 2010](http://searchengineland.com/a-google-logo-for-your-birthday-53089). This is not the first time someone has [posted](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=826174) [about it](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=730970) here.

Edited to say Happy Birthday!
