Someone did [this](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_o8qz3v9DrM4/S9-KrK2O8oI/AAAAAAAABEQ/Q4zOBhXw2qg/s1600/welcome2cleveland.jpg) back in 1978 as a joke. To the best of my knowledge it’s still there. The punchline: It’s in Milwaukee [Here](http://googlesightseeing.com/2007/08/welcome-to-cleveland/) it is on Google Maps. Now that I see it like that, I realize that I drive past it on a pretty regular basis. ---

Hmmm, I think I just found a Google Maps Easter Egg. If you go to the White House and zoom all the way in…keep going, zoom all the way down…all of a sudden. Well, ya know what, just do it yourself. I remember years ago you couldn’t see it or it was pixelated or just not there or something and I wanted to see if it was still like that. Nope, quite the opposite. Zoom in until you get a clear view of the White House roof, then keep zooming in. Not Street View, just keep zooming even when it looks like the scroll bar is all the way at the top, just hit it one more time. I think if you just search for The White House, Washington DC it’ll take you right there and then you can start zooming in. ---

I’m not seeing anything special. I can zoom in as far as possible and I see the White House roof, and two main gardens. If I attempt to go any further, I go into “street view” mode, but I’m inside the White House, like a virtual tour. Is that what you mean? ---

Damn. I just checked the Google Maps image that’s currently in use, and I’d be tickled just to have them take a picture when it’s NOT garbage pick-up day and there’s six black garbage bags and a bright yellow empty kitty littler container on the tree lawn in front of my house. :mad: ---

If I knew they were imaging my area, I would LOVE to put “OBAMA 2012” in my neighbor’s field. He would pay google to take new images. I loved that “Welcome to Cleveland” sign! In one of the WW wars, the british wanted it to look like they had boat loads of air planes, so they made up fake planes out of wood. I’d love to put a whole squadron of jets on the back side of my farm and see how long it would take Homeland Security to come visit my collection. How do you find out in advance? I found the Google Follow Your World site, but that looks like notification after the fact. ---

I’d think they’d keep where they’re going as hush hush as possible just so people don’t plan stunts. Of course, dedicated people will always be ready with some big mural on their roof, but I think you’d find there’s probably _a lot_ more people that are just opportunistic if they knew that the camera are going to be rolling through town on a specific date. If that was the case, I think you’d end up with a lot of streakers, political rallies, ads for stores/brands etc, pro life/choice signs. I’ve seen those cars roll through a handful of times, but never with enough time to organize anything (had I wanted to), but if I knew it was going to be in my area on a certain date, I might be able to put up some signs for my store around the city or stick “Vote/recall \_\_\_\_\_” on every lawn in the neighborhood. ETA OTOH, I could be wrong and maybe it’s public information, I dunno. ---

I noticed when I last looked at my house on Google Maps that the lawn mowing pattern is clear as day, so I’d mow the alfalfa field out back into a picture of Alfalfa from the Little Rascals. This fall I want to mow “No Amendments” into my lawn, but I think that would draw a crowd equipped with torches and pitchforks given the conservative district in which I live. ---

It seems the vast majority of imaging is taken during the non-winter season. I could rent a snow machine and blast my house and yard with a couple feet of nice powder. I’d be out there in full winter garb, shoveling my driveway, while the rest of the neighborhood has nice full, green trees and lawns, and their pools are opened. ---
