Seems to me **DDG** came up with the exact response **jarbaby** was looking for. I’ve notice jar poking DDG with a stick for the past few days (and **hardygrrl** trotting in after with a slightly smaller one). I’ve been wondering when one would pit the other. The OP didn’t seem like constructive critisism to me, and I wouldn’t have reacted to it kindly if it were directed at me. It was disguised as constructive critisism, but given the explosive threads of the past few days, there’s no way jarbaby could have been expecting DDG to smile and say “thank you for taking time to alert me of my misdeeds.” Being helpful, and maybe a little over-zealous about order on the boards at times isn’t particularly heinous, so I don’t see what’s all the hubbub, bub. And good on ya’, **DDG**. That was a helluva cathartic post! ---

My opinion on this matter, speaking strictly as a poster: DDG’s main activity here does seem to be quick, on-topic google searches. Maybe I’m reading the wrong threads, but that’s what it looks like from my end. Is this a bad thing? Not on the whole - some GQ’s can indeed be answered by a quick search on the 'Net. And God knows I’ve used many a search engine in answering questions on these boards. But if Google results were 90% of my posts here, I wouldn’t be surprised if people thought I was trying to win some sort of contest in which the winner answers the most questions per day, or something. Speaking as a poster who’s also a moderator: there’s nothing wrong with helping newbies out, pointing them to the FAQ’s, linking to previous threads on ATMB questions, et cetera. Lots of people do so, and I can wholeheartedly say that the staff greatly appreciates this. BUT, **Duckie** , you do have a tendency to go beyond the factual answers in that particular realm, and end up posting what _you_ think the staff’s reaction to a specific situation might be. Not only are you often wrong when you do so, it’s also pretty damn annoying to have to correct eroneous impressions created by those half-guesses. You’re not a member of the SD Staff. I would suggest that you keep your answers restricted to the factual stuff that can be found in the FAQ’s or previous ATMB threads, and stop trying to get into the heads of the SDMB moderators and administrators. Also, I have to take issue with your assertion that “Hardly anything is in the fucking FAQ”. I dare say that if a newbie reads all sticky threads in ATMB, the regular FAQ, and our registration agreement, he or she has a pretty solid basis for a problem free posting career at the Straight Dope. The fact that not all newbies _do_ this, is another matter, but the information that’s available to a new member of these boards is anything but “hardly anything”. ---

**DDG** posts a terse reply, gets a slew of posts saying in effect “is that the best you can do?” **DDG** later comes back with a truely PIT-WORTHY response, and gets a new slew of posts saying in effect “Take a chill pill!” Damn you people are hard to satisfy. ---

Cheesesteak: I didn’t think she would smile and make a turnaround. I wanted to hear her side of the story regarding telling Anahita what to post and not post. i wanted to hear perhaps why she was so snarky in the Unban Satan! thread (and believe me, had she said, ‘I was having a bad day’ I would have accepted it, since that’s a valid excuse) I wanted to hear why she didn’t come back to the pregnancy chances thread and correct herself or apologize. In a way, she DID answer that question, and that’s fine. She didn’t get back to it. Although I must say, for someone who relies on a search engine for MOST of her posts on the boards, that was a relatively easy one to answer without ‘guessing’. ---

It’s always nice to see people who, for whatever reason, haven’t started a thread themselves, pile on when one is started. By my count the list of those in this thread are: **Hamadryad** , **Jessica2** , **tiggeril** , **hardygrrl** , and **Maeglin**. So you guys don’t like **DDG** , or don’t feel her typical responses are worth much. Eh, frankly, who cares? I don’t think much of any of you, based upon your behavior in this thread, but then I doubt any of you care. Why should **DDG** care about the opinions of people who seize this oppurtunity to take grubby little snipes at her? I also feel that **DDG’s** response (including her second post) was entirely appriopriate. It’s much like her response to **Joe\_Cool** in the **Satan** thread. If someone is rude and insulting, even if they hide it beneath a veneer of civility, and don’t use (or overuse) profanity, what’s the difference? It’s still rude and insulting. Such behavior deserves not only to be met in kind, it deserves to be outdone. If you hit someone with only half your force, well, you’ve still hit them, and you have no reason to expect that the punch coming back will be similarly restrained. **Jarbabyj** , if it isn’t your intention to start a fight (which I’m skeptical of), then don’t start one. It really is just that simple. Finally, I do appreciate **DDG’s** contribution to this site. And no, **hardygrrl** , I don’t need you to point out for a third time (or perhaps a 4th or 5th looking at the new posts on preview) that you don’t feel she contributes. People will measure contributions differently. Rather than telling **minty green** to read your post again, perhaps you should accept that not everyone is the snide bitch you appear to be. ---

Jarbaby, I can understand your concern about those three items, and I don’t think it’s a problem at all that you ask about them. When I read your OP, though, it sure seemed a lot more like an attack on her personal style more than a comment about these three incidents. At least, **I** would have taken it as an attack on my style, and apparently DDG did too. ---
