# Google Translator Telephone game

It works like this. You take a well-known passage of text in English and translate it into another language using Google Translator. Then you translate that passage into another language and keep doing so through all the languages (or you can be lazy and do it through less). Then you translate the last passage back into English and post it here so people can try to guess the original passage.

Maybe I’m not doing this right, but after 20 translations this one didn’t change at all:
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog
Didn’t keep track of which languages were used; I do know that Welsh and Esperanto were in there.

He had a great emptiness. How far, I do not think it is incredibly great. So it is from the pharmacy, you might think, but these areas are just peanuts.
Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.

It actually came through reasonably well after a journey through about a dozen languages and four alphabets:

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.
She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.
These translators are getting so much better. I remember when just translating something from Spanish and back to English on Altavista used to render 80% gibberish.

I’m surprised at how many of these get shorter. Translation, from any language to any other, usually makes things longer.
Late at night, an intriguing stranger, a little tired, and the knowledge that even while I pondered boring to many cities, and

English -\> Korean -\> Hungarian -\> Japanese -\> German -\> Arabic -\> Basque -\> English. I didn’t feel like going through all of them, but wanted a good sampling of different language families.
And the only ones I was able to get were **Antinor01** ’s, **VarlosZ** ’s, **AK84** ’s, and **Kamino Neko** ’s. Though some, I wasn’t familiar with the original.
