Those native born Brits are part of your economy and your country and shouldn’t be dismissed because they don’t fit into the model that you think they should. Figuring out how to get them to work harder should be the governments job, not replacing them with ‘better’ workers. Where do you expect them to go? Poland? India?
That they are uneducated and bigoted (probably because of their lack of education), doesn’t mean that they should be pushed aside and ignored because they express their opinions in a perceived bigoted way. Maybe they don’t know any other way.
And vote for…? There’s only one major party leader who doesn’t think a fag is someone who brings you toast in the morning at boarding school, and that’s Gordon.
On this point I 100% agree, and it’s something that frustrates me no end in the debates about immigration in this country. Having the view that you’re concerned about immigration for any reason seems to now be viewed as morally suspect and, quite probably, racist.
Whilst I frequently don’t agree with the points made by people who are anti immigration (particularly as a lot of their arguments do fall into the category of “coming over here, taking our jobs, living on benefits” etc which doesn’t smack of a balanced viewpoint) it is categorically not the way to handle such arguments to simply label them as racist and wrong and unworthy of engagement. This approach has been taken more and more frequently by New Labour and the danger of this is it simply gives credence to the crap spouted by people like the BNP that the common person isn’t listened to nowadays.
Refusing to discuss a topic doesn’t make it any less relevant.
