One problem with doing an ArchiveBinge over on Cake Wrecks: I have cake cravings. Fortunately, grocery store bakery cupcakes can solve this.

I had a co-worker say something similar to me, and I dredged up approximately the quote from _Ladyhawke_: " I talk to God all the time, and, no offense, but He never mentioned you." 😃

I wouldn’t make enough on Disability to pay my rent, utilities and still eat. Oh, and reading something yesterday about how the SSDI fund will run out by the end of next year, and of course you know the Republicans will do everything possible to NOT fix it and instead let it be destroyed. Kind hearted people, they are.
But yeah, it came up in conversation with a co-worker yesterday and I was reading about it.

No offense and not suggesting anyone break the law, but if my MD refused to prescribe appropriate pain meds I’d seek an alternate source, either another MD or a friend of a friend.

I wish I could make you some cupcakes. I like making cupcakes but I have a bit of a problem with making them at this time of year, when a lot of my friends are out of town and I don’t have many people to share them with, so I end up eating too many myself.

I’m a store cashier. I’m checking out a customer who is watching me like a hawk. She asks me to price check nine items, and twice she goes back into the aisle to check prices. Finally I get her totally checked out, and she leaves. I breath a sign of relief, and the cashier next to me says “What was that all about.”
Five minutes later the customer walks in and announces loudly “I KNEW YOU MADE A MISTAKE! YOU CHARGED ME TWICE FOR ONE ITEM!” The head cashier and the manager come over, as per the store’s our policy when customers get loud). I look at the register receipt, and point out that while the price is the same, the bar code is totally different.
She persists YOU CHARGE ME TWICE FOR THIS. At that point, the head cashier says she’ll take care of it. She takes the person to another cash register and checks out every item. The receipt is totally correct. She calls me over to verify this.
Customer leaves without apologizing. Bitch.

I see that crap all the time at the grocery store, especially on Saturday mornings, which seem to be OMG EVERY OLD PERSON IN EXISTENCE MUST GO TO THE STORE NOW Day.
I never understand that. Go through the register, pick over a ton of coupons, half of which are expired, then go straight over to the service desk and spend 10 minutes trying to weasel that extra dime out of them.

Trust me, **Chimera** , as an officially Old Person, I never go to the grocery store, or any other store, on Saturday. One of the benefits of being retired is that I can avoid all retail on the weekend and holidays. Tuesday morning at 7:30 there are no screaming children or crowds at the Walmart. So, those OLD PERSONs you are running into must not be old enough to be retired, or else they are just there to annoy you. Probably that’s it.

Or they’re the kind of person who keeps job hours even though they don’t have a job any more. I know a lot of them. To me, a benefit of being on vacation, retired or unemployed (which ok, is not an ideal situation, but in my case it’s when I get vacation) is that as you say I can go shopping any time the stores are open. Lots of people, including some who never kept office hours themselves but their spouses did, are just into the habit of going shopping outside of office hours, or taking couses outside of office hours, or etc etc and can’t even understand why they should break it.
I’m not sure if they compensate for the ones who can’t understand that, while they don’t keep office hours or work shifts any more, their children do.

Well, bugger.
Good news, the A/C unit is fixed and running.
Bad news, it’s old enough at builder grade that it needs to be replaced, and so does the water heater and sump pump.
I can cover it, but damn, I was planning on doing something else with that money.

I gift a cake or cupcakes to the son of one of my husband’s coworkers for his birthday. Last year it was dinosaurs. This year, Minions. The coworker has already texted me several photos from Pinterest as to what SHE and HER MOTHER (note I didn’t say SON – after all, he’s going to be 4 or 5, I think?) would like. Needless to say, they’re the over-the-top-all-fondant kind where it’d take days to fashion every single Minion figure. They did this last year with the dinosaurs and I got into it with both of them as in “You want me to do ALL that work? Then you PAY me for my labor because there’s a difference between gifting and taking advantage of me.”
So yeah, I can whip them up using just icing. The son isn’t going to care as long as they resemble Minions.

That reminds me of the first place I lived back in 19…mumble mumble… when I had just graduated college. Every Saturday in the summer they put a keg of beer out at the pool and fired up the grill. BYOM. The place was filled with just out of college people working at Motorola.
But only getting it once a year and then cancelling sucks.

Sorry for your troubles, and just curious how old your house is. Ours is just a bit under five and the builder’s grade refrig is malfunction, and we already had to replace the springs in the garage door (I typed garbage door first; freudian). When can I expect A/C and water heater issues? (Not soon on the A/C I hope; it’s over 100 currently in central Texas.)

Today’s grumbles: general achiness related to the weather shifting (possible showers/thunderstorms through tomorrow afternoon), two co-irkers I’d dearly love to choke, and one I just plain don’t want to have around because I’m none too sure of her emotional stability. Losing a lead I really like makes it worse (she’s just transferring to another department, but still…).

Ugh, ugh, ugh. My cat is NOT a social being. He barely lets me pet him, and he will never crawl into my lap, or let me pick him up. So taking him to the vet is always an ordeal. I had to take him in yesterday because he has basically stopped eating his dry food (which is a prescription for urinary problems) and I wanted to see if he’s having tooth problems. Taking him to the vet is so stressful. He hisses and growls and tries to bite the vet and the techs, and when we’re all done, I’m exhausted.
