FWIW, everyone, an ellipsis is not truly three periods in a row, as we usually type it on the web; it is actually a character all its own, and you can type it on your PC by holding down the ALT key while typing 0133 on your num pad. Most screen fonts make it look crummy when next to a period, but a side-effect of this is it makes it very easy and clear to use in examples.

In my publishing experience, we follow the Chicago Manual, which treats ellipses as stated above. However, some people on this planet think the Chicago Manual is worth so much TP, so it’s best to check with your superiors to see which style manual they follow. Personally, I prefer the Chicago treatment, esp. as an aesthetic. It is very clean and beautiful….
