I have seen (for example, on [thesaurus.com](http://thesaurus.com)) charts which show how close the definition of two different words are to one another.

Has anyone gone in and determined how many factors there are to the definition of a word and computed coordinates in some level of dimensionality? Or has this been determined to be impossible?
