My complaint is that the Pit has turned into a fucking love-fest at times. I posted a thread a while back offering myself over for the Teeming Millions interpreting my vehemence as being an asshole to two particular posters on this board, and everybody comes in patting me on the back and saying, “There, there, honey.” **Sqrl** also opened himself up for flames and got kisses instead. Even some of the threads that start off ranting about someone end up diverting from the OT into a group grope for the OP. So what the fuck is up with that? (And I’ll concur, **Alphagene** - that list was a riot. 😃 The whole reason I come to this board every day is so my co-workers wonder what I’m snarfing up my morning tea about.) Esprix ---

I got into a mild disagreement around here recently about this. I was under the impression that the #1 rule at the SDMB is, “don’t be a jerk.” Now, I know that a little jerkiness is par for the course when you write a nice, searing flame, but just because your in the Pit and being a gratuitous jerk doesn’t mean you’re not being a jerk. As I mentioned at the time, my yardstick for evaluating this is simple: I try not to post anything that would get me a punch in the cakehole if I said it to the person in real life. Our primary purpose here is to fight ignorance, and in my opinion, it’s hard to do that with _ad homs_ flying all over the place. Just write about what’s bothering you. ---

Better put on your aluminum underwear before quoting complete posts, especially when yours is the very next post, **Cynical**. And what IS it about aluminum underwear? Aluminum conducts heat too well to protect you. Your nether regions would end up heated evenly, which could be comfortable in this weather. OOOOPS! Mentioned the weather, didn’t I?
