I must say I’m shocked to not have seen Fugazi by now.
Damn, how did I forget this one?
Robyn Hitchcock
no, just because i haven’t heard it, it doesn’t mean it isn’t so. but just because you’ve heard them on the radio, doesn’t make them “radio hits”.
Dpends on your definition of a “hit”. I think if a song gets regular airplay for a short while it should be considered a hit. Minor or major is irrelevant to me. Consider that musical tastes can be regional. A band may recieve airplay in one market and not in another.
In that case Tori Amos definitely doesn’t qualify…I’ve heard “Silent All These Years,” “Crucify,” “Cornflake Girl” and that one with the “God, sometimes you just don’t come through” line about a zillion and a half times each, all on the radio, all on pop stations, and all in Richmond Virginia where, if it ain’t popular, they ain’t playing it.
(Like the run-on sentence?)
Oysterhead has a CD out, I forgot the title. It’s really not too amazing, but they put on a hell of a show.
OK, here’s one that definitely doesn’t hold true here in Canada where you can’t go anywhere without hearing them but The Tragically Hip are woefully underexposed in the US. They’re a wonderful antidote to that Barenaked Ladies pap.
Also, check out Godspeed You Black Emporer! an experimental orchestral spacerock outfit, Tortoise who tend towards abstract soundscapes, and The Flaming Lips’ richly arranged modern psychadelica. I highly recommend their CD, The Soft Bulletin.
