There’s a bar in the Chelsea section of Manhattan called Ear. The reason for this is that the place used to have a big, red neon sign out front that read **BAR** in block letters. Part of the sign burned out, making the B look like an E. The owners never got around to fixing it, so eventually everyone started calling it Ear. And they still do.

When I passed through Denison, Iowa, I saw a bar called Book 'em, Dan-o. I didn’t go in, but I kind of wish I had.

**The Funking Conservatory** : it’s actually the last name of the people who run it, a school for professional wrestlers. Got to be _real_ careful saying this.
_The Get Lucky Guesthouse_: a guesthouse in Amsterdam. I stayed there based on the name, but I’d suggest it to anyone - nice people run it. Of course it’s near the District.

He got lots of business from people who just wanted the t-shirt.

This isn’t exactly in the same vein as the other responses, but it certainly caught my eye. In a small town in New Hampshire, near Hanover, is an establishment called ‘The Unamerican Activities Investigation Committee.’ Sadly, I wasn’t able to visit ☹

It’s amazing how much more lucid one is when they’re on here first thing in the morning.

Two other REAL candidates from the pissant white-bread mountain town I call home include:

The Vietnamese restaurant called ‘A Dong’.
The chinese restaurant and karaoke bar called ‘U Sing’.

Why is it that asian cuisine and dubious nonmenclatures go so well together?

There’s an old building several miles south of the town I live in which _looks_ like it came from a main street of a small town about 130 years ago, but sits all by itself on a dirt road out in the middle of nowhere. In front is a bunch of rusty old road construction equipment. The sign over the door says “Expanding Contracting.”

In Osaka, there is a chain of bars called ‘Someplace Else’ (I used to frequent the one at Triangle Park in Amerika mura).

As in, “Where have you guys been?” “Someplace Else.”

In Kobe, there is a really nice restaurant, overlooking Kobe Bay near the ferris wheel, called Mosaic (great paella). Trouble is, “mosaic” in Japan means the square fuzzy big pixels in front of genitalia in pornography. Lots of people eat there, anyway.

In Hong Kong, buying milk from “Kowloon Dairy Company” makes me wonder if the milk contains mad cow disease.

Wow, my family has talked about how cool it would be to start a restaurant called Someplace Else.

My roommate has a pair of boxers with the phrase “I got my crabs at Dirty Dick’s.” Dirty Dick’s, being, of course, a seafood restaurant/store (not sure which, I forgot to ask her).

There’s a Vietnamese foodcart and restaurant in Madison called I’m Here.
