I don’t know how obscure these will be thought. I work amongst a sea of mechanical engineers who would put Tolstoy in that category (as experienced, to my utter dismay, when I brought a copy of Anna Karenina to read during lunch). I tend to be captured by the cynical - George Bernard Shaw “The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more point to the fact than a drunken man is happier than a sober one.” Or Calvin (of the Watterson ilk) - “Why should I have to WORK for everything?
