What does it mean — and I’ve seen this several times now — when a person leaves a lot of blank space in his reply, and then writes “what?” ---

I miss my old buddy **mouthbreather**. Met him and his lady a couple of times IRL. (Can’t remember her username…) Both very cool folks. **mouthbreather** could always be counted on for a hilariously snide remark, or some insightful commentary on music. ---
