It wasn’t made into a movie, but I was disappointed with the SyFy version of The Magicians. I actually liked the TV series, but I was so looking forward to seeing a version of the books, that at the same time I was kind of hating on it.
The 1940 version of “The Sea Hawk” used Rafael Sabatani’s name for commercial value but is a whole lot different than his original (the 1924 silent film version was fairly faithful to it). But with World War II occurring, it was changed to a Francis Drake-type privateer warning Queen Elizabeth that her brother-in-law Phillip II of Spain was sending an Armada against England, giving Bess a chance to declare that no one man rules the world. This appealed greatly to British audiences of the time, who after World War I ruled about one-quarter of the world
