I am looking for a new game to play on PC, but I don’t want to play anything that has any element of game play affected by micro transactions. I want to buy a game and pay everything I need to pay up front, without having the game try to convince me to pay more money to improve my gaming experience.

“Paid for” cosmetic enhancements (like new skins), I guess, are not to bad but I would prefer if they were absent too.

I also want to push my gaming rig on something that has great graphics.

So what are some recent-ish PC games that satisfy as much of the following list of requirements (in order of importance) as possible?

1. No micro-transactions
2. Fun to play
3. Great graphics
4. Single Player

The recent DOOM is a fun FPS that will make you wish you had a high end video card.

Prey is also a recent, well received FPS. I have only played the demo, but I am 95% certain that there are no mtx.

Any Half Life or Fallout 3, 4 or New Vegas.

Yeah, Fallout and Skyrim are good choices but I am not sure if the OP would consider them recent.

I like the look of Prey. Good suggestion. I’ve played DOOM and Skyrim. I have not played Fallout (any of them), might give it a go.
Assasin’s Creed Origins could be another idea. [Apparently](http://me.ign.com/en/pc/139408/feature/heres-the-deal-with-assassins-creeds-microtransactions) their usage of micro transactions are fairly harmless.

What kind of gaming rig do you have?
Prey, Metro Last Light and Dishonored 1, 2 and Death of the Outsider look good and are well rated FPS.

Alien: Isolation for sci-fi horror.

GTA V isn’t recent but it’ll push your graphics card as much as you want it to and it gets free updates.

I’ve been having lots of fun with _Watch Dogs 2_. Cosmetic micro transactions are present and I have all three multiplayer options turned off in the settings.

Damn.

Have you considered VR games or getting a 21:9 4k monitor to fully make use of those double 1080Tis? Otherwise, I doubt you’ll find much that allows your GPUs to stretch their legs.

Turn all the settings up to 11 on the Crysis games.

Wolfenstein: The New Order was stand alone with no DLC. The newer game, The New Colossus, has a season pass but those are separate stories that don’t impact the main game.

Mad Max didn’t have any DLC which I thought was sort of strange for a WB game but there ya go.

I agree with others that Prey is worth getting.

I guess there’s a question here of what you consider a microtransaction. Are you including full on paid expansions (extra game content, etc) or just the nickel and dime stuff? For instance, Witcher 3 has paid DLC but no “Buy an armor chest key for only $1.99” nonsense.

GTA V has microtransactions for the multiplayer, but they don’t affect the single player at all.

I like messing with the cops when not doing missions. Hang out at the beach east of Rhonda’s and see how many patrol cars I can tell to go into the bay.

Yeah… Watch Dogs 2 made me a bad person. If someone made me angry, like they insulted me or tried to cut me off, I’d use a hack to say they were wanted for terrorism. Then watch SWAT show up and arrest them.

If I was really feeling naughty, I would cause the cops to have feedback on their headsets, which would temporarily incapacitate them. The suspect would usually run in fear. The cops would assume the terrorist suspect did it and shoot him or her.

On a less evil note, I’d have a mission to infiltrate a place run by a gang. I’d set up a gang war with a rival gang and sit back while I watch everyone kill each other. Then casually walk around the dead bodies, and pick up cash they dropped, and complete my mission without firing a shot or sneaking around or anything.

Or make robots go berserk and turn on their own security guys…

I forgot how much of a masterpiece that game was. One of the best experiences ever and it never got old.

So, they learned their lesson and made a good game with the sequel? It’s 66% off on Steam so I might give it a go depending on review and what you have to say.

Thanks, didn’t remember. Do the microtransactions make it as pay-to-win or grindy as most other games that involve microtransactions?

As [TV Tropes](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/WatchDogs2) says:

> [@](#):
>
> [And You Thought It Would Fail](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AndYouThoughtItWouldFail): _Watch Dogs 2_ was met with a mixed reception when first announced, largely due to the bad blood that had been formed around the game. When it was released, many players were surprised that, like _Assassin’s Creed 2_ seven years prior, Ubisoft took the criticisms of the first game to heart and improved in nearly every area. Ultimately, while the game didn’t sell nearly as well as the original at first, it had much better staying power thanks to positive word-of-mouth.
>
> [Surprisingly Improved Sequel](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisinglyImprovedSequel): The game is largely agreed to be an improvement over the first due to a [Lighter and Softer](http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LighterAndSofter) tone, a more likable protagonist, an increased emphasis on hacking and infiltration via drones and allowing you to explore the entire world from the start, rather than forcing you to unlock it using radio towers. Though there are some elements that have been met with criticism from some fans, such as being forced to collect research points to unlock certain skills (despite the first game having nothing of the sort), the side activities being less interesting than the ones in the first game, and the villains not being particularly threatening or intimidating compared to the ones in the previous game.

I have two problems with WD2 and both have to do with graphics. Sometimes tabbing between windows results in the game being displayed on the wrong monitor; other times, this results in people being and items getting very blurry when moving.

I see my drivers have been updated again, maybe that’ll help.
