I’m surprised that no one has mentioned a certain song by Deep Purple. The rest of the song isn’t that great, but the opening riff is probably one of the most memorable of rock. NIN’s live version of “Terible Lie” also has a great intro. And as good as the intros by Ozzie that have already been mentioned are, I think that they pale in comparison to that of “Mr. Crawly”. A few more nominations for Pink Floyd: “Another Brick in the Wall, Part II”. “Shine on, You Crazy Diamond” ---

My two favorites are Rolling Stones: Gimme Shelter and Dire Straits: Making Movies both use a minor key in the introduction and always manage to make me shiver when I hear them. ---

“My Sharona” by the Knack–intro’s better than the whole song…definitely better than the lyrics. "Heartbreaker/Livin’ Lovin’ Maid (She’s just a woman) by Led Zeppelin “Rock Lobster” by the B-52’s “Day Tripper” by the Beatles When I first heard these songs, it was the intro that made me want to keep listening, which is what a good intro does. ---
