What’s your favorite closing line to a movie? Mine has got to be the closing line to Network.

“This was the story of Howard Beale who was the network news anchorman on UBS-TV, the first known instance of a man being killed because he had lousy ratings.”

I laughed my ass off. Made the whole, wonderful movie seem like it was nothing more than a lead-in to this punchline. Any others?

Well, there’s the obvious: “Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

“It’s a pity she won’t live. But then, who does?” from \* Blade Runner. \*

“Do you have any regrets?” “Only one.” from \* The People vs. Larry Flynt. \*

“I’m trying . . . real hard . . . to be the shepherd.” from \* Pulp Fiction \* (the final scene is actually the only part of the movie that I liked much).

“Sebastian. Will you come in? I want to talk to you.” from \* Notorious. \*

“Is the honor of God washed clean enough?” from \* Becket. \*

“Oh, not you again.” from \* The Mirror Has Two Faces. \*

“Vanity. Definitely my favorite vice.” from \* The Devil’s Advocate. \*

I think there’s only one closing line that’s so famous, I know it even though I’ve never seen the movie: “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.”

Actually, that’s not the closing line. It’s in the final scene, but it’s not the final line. It’s:

“After all, tomorrow is another day!”

spoken by Scarlett _after_ Rhett’s give-a-damn line.

My nomination:

“Oh, Aunt Em! There’s no place like home!”

Guess… 🙂

I’m not sure of the exact wording, but it’s something close to, “I hope the Pacific Ocean is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope, i hope…”

Still sends chills down my spine.

“Oh, no, it wasn’t the airplanes. Twas beauty killed the beast.” I don’t really have to identify that source, do it? 🙂

I’m also partial the final exchange of dialog in Dinner at 8:

Jean Harlow: I was reading a book the other day.
Marie Dressler (after the greatest double take in the history of cinema): Reading a book??
Harlow: Yes. It’s all about civilization or something. A nutty kind of a book. Do you know that the guy says that machinery is going to take the place of every profession?
Dressler: Oh, my dear. That’s something you need never worry about.

2001: A Space Oddysey; I totally forget if it is the last line (and it may not have even been said until 2010) but, “Oh my god, it’s full of stars!”

I don’t remember if this is the very last line or not, but it’s at the end at least
(paraphrase)
“I’ve heard that relationships based on intense circumstances don’t work well”
“Well, then we’ll just have to base it on sex.”

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves, Speed

Lovely. One of the best comedies EVER.

Actually, it’s:

“Vanity. Definitely my favorite **sin**.”

Sorry, I’m a nitpicker.

Of course, one of my favorites (as mentioned in the closing scene thread) has to be:

“You did it, you finally did it. Damn You! Damn You!”
Planet of the Apes (Wording may not be exact–I’ve seen The Devil’s Advocate a lot more recently. Despite the presence of Keanu Reeves.)

[sub]Charlize Theron and Connie Nielsen had a lot to do with it, if you MUST know[/sub]

Quoted from my poor memory…

“I am everywhere, and nowhere… I am everybody, and nobody… call me… DARKMAN”.

And there’s closing line from Frankenstein Unbound too.

“You think that you have killed me. But I will be with you forever. I am unbound.”

This…this is beauty. And you know what? There **IS** a little bit of Godzilla in each of us.

I can’t remember if it is the exact last line, but,
“Rosebud…”
